Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence is the expanded re-release of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater. It marked a turning point in the series with the inclusion of a 3rd person camera with provided the framework for every instalment released since. The new camera wasn't the only difference, however. Also included with Subsistence were features like the Demo Theatre, Duel Mode, international face paints and the European Extreme difficulty setting. While this is nothing new to those who played the PAL version of Snake Eater, all of this content was new to North America and Japan. Disc 2 of Subsistence contained Metal Gear Online, an 8 player online shooter, and ports of the original MSX versions of Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake, officially available in English for the first time. Disc 3 contained a three and a half hour Snake Eater movie made entirely from cut scenes and cinematically edited game play footage. The movie disc was only available as part of a limited edition pack in North America.
