Before the original Metal Gear Solid had been released worldwide, work had already begun on Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty. The game was set in two chapters. The first chapter saw players take control of Solid Snake as he infiltrated a tanker to gain photographic evidence of a new Metal Gear. The second chapter saw players take control of new protagonist, Raiden. His mission was to infiltrate the offshore cleanup facility "Big Shell" and neutralise a terrorist threat. The European version included a bonus "Making of" DVD. This Limited Edition version is the same as the standard release, except for the inclusion of a Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty branded steel case to keep the game in.
